In 1892, some of the members of the Oakey Spring Baptist Church, who lived in the area, but quite a distance from Oakey Spring, had no means of transportation felt they needed a church in this community known as the Gleaton Quarters. These Christian men and women had service here under a Brush Arbor.
On August 29, 1895, the executive board, consisting of Reverend J. H. Posey, Reverend G. Daniels, Reverend G. Kirkland and Reverend R. D. Rice, serving as chairperson, went to the Association and asked that a constitution be drawn up by which a church could be established and governed. Their request was granted, and the first church building was erected on land obtained from Mr. Gleaton.
Gospel Temple Baptist Church called Reverend G. Kirkland, as their first Pastor during the initial organization, followed by Reverend J. W. Whittaker, Reverend Sam Ferguson, Reverend Rickenbacker, Reverend Crumpton, Reverend Barnes, and Reverend L. W. Tyler. Reverend Grady Fulmer served as pastor from 1950 through 1978. Reverend J. F. Koger served as Pastor from 1978 until July 1979, all of whom are now deceased.
Reverend Patrick W. Wise was called as Pastor. He served as Pastor from 1980 through 1985. Reverend Bennie Wiggins, Jr., was called to Pastor in 1986 and served until 2021. The services under these great men were dynamic and inspiring. Many received Christ as their personal savior.
The first Deacons of the church were as follows: Deacon Charlie Williams, Deacon Cap Brown, Deacon Burley Gleaton, Deacon Arthur Johnson, Deacon James C. Gleaton, Deacon Nal Hallman, Deacon Luther Stroman, Deacon Julius Mibbens, Deacon Nathaniel Stroman, Deacon Colie Brown, Deacon Johnny Brown, and Deacon Legrand Jefferson, all of whom are now deceased..
Our secretaries were as follows: Brother Carson, Brother B. L. Gleaton, Sister Carrie Brown, Brother Coli Brown, Sister Lurlene Argro Williams, Sister Edna Brown, Sister Emma Argo, Sister Vera Jackson Lucas, Sister Bobbie Jane Argo Goodwin, of who are all deceased, and Sister Michelle Morgan.
The original structure remained until 1965 and a new edifice was built under the leadership of Reverend Grady Fulmer. Services were held every 4th Sunday of each month. The 2nd Sunday was added later. This structure remained until it was destroyed by fire on July 3, 1979. The churches of the Beaver Creek Association opened their doors to us, and services were held at our sister churches, Flora Branch, Turkey Branch, and in our mother church, Oakey Spring. Many ministers came to minister to us during this time period. Reverend P. W. Wise was called as our next Pastor in February 1980. Under the leadership of Reverend Wise, our present Structure was completed. Our first service was held on March 22, 1981 and dedicated on April 26, 1981.
After Reverend Wise resigned in 1985, Reverend Grady Fulmer, Pastor Emeritus, filled the pulpit along with other ministers until September 19, 1985, When Reverend Bennie Wiggins, Jr. was called as the Pastor and installed in 1987. Under the leadership of Reverend Wiggins, the Fellowship Hall was completed in 1992 and the Baptism pool was installed. After the resignation of Reverend Bennie Wiggins, Jr. in 2021, the church began the search for another pastor. Reverend Wesley J. Scott was called on January 22, 2023 to become the new pastor. He was installed on March 26, 2023. Since this installation of Reverend Scott, may great things have happened at the Temple. Under his leadership, the following have been put in place and added to the church; new church signs were replaced around church and on Highway #4, internet services installed, new furniture added to pastor study, microphone system, church website and live broadcast over Facebook, praise team and youth choir. Also, under his leadership, Trustee Jackie Glover was ordained a Deacon on June 11, 2023 and Brothers Tyrone Gleaton and Isaac Gleaton were appointed to the Trustee Ministry and Sister Jennie L. Smith became the Church Clerk.
The Gospel Temple past and potential growth of prosperity in the future can be attributed to the persons so named above and the leadership ability of our present spiritual leader Pastor Wesley J. Scott, and the members of this great church. One can plainly see, Gospel Temple Baptist Church has come a long way since the Brush Arbor days. Our theme is very much true, for we need to "Look Where He Brought Us From."

Scott, Deacon Donald Gleaton, Chairman of Deacon Ministry, Deacon Jackie Glover, Trustee Ronald Jefferson, Chairman of Trustee Ministry, Trustee Randy Glover, Trustee Isaac Gleaton, Trustee Tyrone Gleaton, Sister Jennie L Smith, Church Clerk and Sister Mary A.
